Mountain Gate Organics

Mountain Gate Organics lies among the hills and tall rock ridges of the Mizen Peninsula. We — Christie Sanders and Elizabeth Savage — have farmed here for sixteen years and have been organically licensed since 2021. Our Blackface Mountain ewes overwinter and lamb on the hills around Cnoc an Phúca. In the sheltered ground below, open beds, polytunnels and glasshouses produce salad leaves, herbs, vegetables and fruit through the seasons — including, somewhat improbably, Meyer lemons. We grow and raise food in ways that suit the plants, the animals and the land. What isn’t sold fresh often finds its way into our chutney pots.

From Hill to Fertile Ground

Mixed salad leaves are at the heart of our growing year, followed by a changing harvest of greens, herbs, vegetables and fruit. What the seasons offer in abundance may also find its way into our chutneys, bringing a little of Mountain Gate to the table long after the harvest.
